Would you think this was racist or not?
Scenario:
Child (age 8) loves Bob Marley and music.
Child is Caucasian. Wants to be Bob Marley for Halloween. Mother buys him rastafarian hat, with dreadlocks attached, rasta jacket in colors. Child feels proud. Child says he wants to put brown on his face. Mother says, "that's not appropriate". Child does not understand and says to mother: "You said skin color doesn't matter, it's personality (character) that matters"
Mother says yes. Son says "soooo if color doesn't matter than why can't I be brown like Bob is?- Kylie (girl neighbor) doesn't have blonde hair but she is being Hannah Montana with blonde hair-- It's just a color."
Mother is stumped by child's logic.
What would you do? How would you view seeing a child dressed in brown makeup to change race? Would you consider it sexist, or take it how it was intended?
LOL-- woops -- edit:
I meant to ask would you find it RACIST, not 'sexist'.
